Navigation and Mapping in GPS-denied Environments

UMAPS focuses on navigation and mapping in GPS-denied environments. This project developed into the WarLoc™ and MOLE dismount localization systems.

The dismount localization system, attached to the user’s foot, tracks the movements of one or more users using a variety of sensors. The system communicates with a user’s smartphone, which then synchronizes data with other devices across a data network. The system is robust to communications loss, sensor failure, and non-standard walking gaits. There are two variants of of the sensor — one mounted to the top of the foot (attached via the user’s shoelaces) and one mounted to the back of the heel (attached via straps).
